Mars Calendar

Mars days are a little longer than Earth days because Mars rotates a little slower. Mars years are longer because it takes about twice as long for Mars to revolve around the sun.  Assigning Mars a data "date" needed an agreed upon system.

Scientists date Mars data with a system that uses Earth year1955 as a Mars day 1.  Our Earth 2021 is Mars year 36, in this system. To convert collected Mars data in Mars years to an Earth date, click here: Convert Mars Date to Earth Date
