Radial Profile lines in Craters or Other Areas

This page contains directions to displaying elevations outward from a central point. This tool can be used to make radial profiles of any circular area such as for craters, volcanos, a section of a dune field, or a landing zone.  Only numeric maps will create profiles.

1. Open JMARS

2. Zoom in crater or area of interest (AOI).

3. Click the 3 perpendicular dots on the blue "Layer" label in the Layer manager. Choose "Crater Counting".

4. Move your curser to the center of your AOI and Zoom in (scroll on mouse) until the back circle radius is on your AOI. It is helpful to hold the shift key as you scroll to zoom in smaller increments.  Click and then right click and select "Select mode".

5. Double click on "Crater Counting" layer in the layer manager. A "Crater Counting Options window opens. Click/select row of AOI. Click "Open Profile Viewer" to view the profiles charted from the center out and to adjust options for "Select Numeric Source", number of lines, length of lines, and angular offset, as desired.
